The Cooperativa de Servicios Agropecuarios Gualcinse Limitada COSAGUAL, was founded on January 27, 1994 in the municipality of Gualcinse, in the department of Lempira, with the purpose of finding direct solutions to the commercialization problems of coffee that many of the producers had in the zone. It was legally established on May 5 of the same year, before the governing body of cooperatives in Honduras, the IHDECOOP; today known as CONSUCOOP (National Supervisory Council of Cooperatives).

COSAGUAL is made up of producers and producers, adults and young people from the Gualcinse area and surroundings, who are coffee growers and / or children of coffee growers, of whom 90% are totally dedicated to the coffee sector and individually to other productive activities.

COSAGUAL is located south of the department of Lempira, in the municipality of Gualcinse, at 1,325 meters above sea level. in an edaphoclimatic zone conducive to growing coffee, managing farms in shady mountain areas, thereby allowing sustainability between production and the ecosystem. The cooperative’s coverage extends to the municipalities of Gualcinse, Candelaria, Piraera, San Andrés, Erandique and Santa Cruz.

This cooperative began by collecting the little coffee that its founders produced under the idea that the good quality of their coffee should allow better marketing and thereby generate more income for each of their families. Since 1997 COSAGUAL has exported its coffee to markets such as Germany, Belgium, Sweden, Canada and the USA, thereby allowing it to market at different prices and markets.

Starting in 2009, there is a well-functioning Ecological Coffee Mill, where it collects the coffee in grapes from each of the producers, thereby providing the wet milling service , while at the same time standardizing the quality of the coffee exported by COSAGUAL.
